I have successfully applied for Ill Health Retirement from the Teachers' Pension Board.BigGrin I can't believe I got it so easily without having to appeal. I was told by my Union rep and Occupational Health doctor that it would be very difficult because of my age (I am 35) but hopefully I would get something if appealed a couple of times. I only got the normal level (not enhanced) but I think that is fair because although I won't ever be able to teach (I taught lower age primary) as it is a very tiring active job I hope when my children are a bit older that I will be able to do a little part-time job (just a few hours a week).

I hope other people that are applying are successful too.

hi becky- congrats!

I got mine through from primary teaching when I was 30.

It was impossible for me to manage being mummy and teaching and the RA.

Is there something you are going to do study wise do you think?

That's wonderful, now you can spend more of your pain free time with the children, it must be so difficult when you have young children, i am so gratefull my children were all grown when this ugly R.A reared its head.

Best of luck, As you say later you may find a nice p/time position, in the meantime. ENJOY!

I am hoping to retire from my job next June, when i will be 55, cant wait, i some times feel like crying when i have to go to work, i get so tired and stressed these days, i am starting to count down the months lol .

Take it easy Becky.Cool

Thank you for your kind replies. I still can't believe how easy it was. I am planning on taking it easy for a while. Jenni I would like to do some studying at some point. My only concern is writing essays and assignments as I can't hold a pen for long and even typing on the computer is painful after a few minutes.

Thank you
Becky

Yayy Becky :)

.. have a look at the program dragon Naturally speaking.
There are people on here who swear by it , including Jenni b's daughter who achieved a first class honours in Philosophy :) Yayyyy!!! again.

The licence is for the person (since it recognises your voice to a degree) , so you can put the program on many computers as you need to :)

Yayy again !

Well Done Becky, it must feel fantastic.

As Rich said see if you can have a go at Dragon Software I've just got it as i'm struggling with typing at some points but still coming to terms also that i need to start using it. I've got a training session on Wednesday to help me use it and get use to it.

Enjoy your time Smile

Hello Michelle

Sorry I haven't been on here for a few days. I was a primary school teacher so I spoke to my head and he spoke to HR dept. HR said the best way wad to go through occupational health. My head referred me to the occupational health doctor. He wad happy to support my claim. I downloaded the form filled in my section. My head filled in the schools section and the occupational health doctor filled in the medical section from information supplied by my rheumy nurse.

I guess the best way forward would be to contact your pension board and ask how to apply for ill health retirement. If you have HR dept they could probably help too.

Good luck

Becky
